Dennis began his career in financial services in 1991, during a time of significant change in the industry.  With tax code reform and the adoption of individual retirement accounts and the 401(k) plan, the way people looked at investing and financial planning was changing.  As an undergraduate at Grove City College, Dennis studied the emerging holistic methods, crafting financial case studies as part of his coursework.  He enjoyed the gratification of building paths toward financial security and determined that it was not only numbers that influenced sound financial choices, but also people and their unique circumstances.

After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance, Dennis joined Cigna Financial Advisors; unusual at that time, the firm’s practice was based on holistic financial planning and provided Dennis with continued education and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with his clients.  Keeping pace with the evolving field of finance, Dennis added the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Designation to his credentials to better serve clients’ needs.  Dennis works extensively with retiring teachers and administrators who are participants in the Pennsylvania State Employees Retirement System (PSERS).

Financial planning today has become less associated with any specific product or investment and far more associated with individual investor goals and strategies.  As co-owner and founding partner of DSF Wealth Management Group, LLC, Dennis has built a team of financial and support professionals who share his belief in educating people to make well-informed financial decisions.  Regardless of short-term market performance or volatility, it is an evaluation of client needs, identification of client goals, and implementation of customized strategies that shapes his planning process.

Throughout his career, Dennis’ practice has been motivated by his passion to help people.  He works with a wide variety of individuals in every walk and era of life – each with the desire to utilize earnings and wealth as a means to a better life for themselves and their families.  Dennis’ primary goal is to build lasting relationships to help individuals define and work towards securing their future, whatever life may bring.

Dennis and his wife, Michele, are longtime residents of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, and they attend St. James Church in Sewickley. Their daughter, Natalie, began her career at Drayer Physical Therapy in Moon Township after completing a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy at Saint Francis University. Matthew, their son, is continuing his education at Drexel University College of Medicine in pursuit of being a Doctor of Medicine (MD).  The Spanglers are actively involved in family gatherings and traveling the United States.  Despite the family’s hectic schedule, Dennis makes time for regular pick-up games and events with other fathers of former Moon students, and he enjoys golfing and going hunting each year.

CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®

Ph: 412-564-5526 x 6003
E: rfranks@dsfwealthgroup.com

Ryan’s passion for financial planning began with a question: Why do some people achieve financial security, while others struggle to maintain their quality of life? At a young age, Ryan’s dad, John, gave him the advice to, “always pay yourself first.” John worked in a bank and had seen the power of saving a little each paycheck and the profound impact that could have on one’s life – those that saved had a greater sense of financial freedom while those that cashed-in their paycheck each week continued working well into their later years.

Seeing that financial planning could dramatically improve lives, Ryan knew that he wanted to make a career of helping others manage their money. When he later became the co-founder of DSF Wealth Management Group, he made the company’s mission, “enabling others to have a better tomorrow.” Today, Ryan continues to build a team of financial and support professionals who share in this belief.

Now that Ryan has been in the business for over 20 years, his desire to help others has never wavered. He considers it a great honor and privilege to be a trusted partner of his clients to help them work towards their financial goals. Whether it be welcoming a new baby into the world, celebrating retirement, or grieving with them at the loss of a loved one, Ryan wants to be by their side for all of life’s milestones.

Ryan specializes in working with retirees, business owners, and families. Communication is at the center of his approach with his proactive outreach and regularly-scheduled reviews to ensure their plan is evolving to meet their changing needs. Where some firms push particular products, the DSF approach develops a comprehensive financial plan based on the client’s financial goals, including tax, retirement and estate planning. As an independent firm and a fiduciary, Ryan’s clients’ needs are always put above all else.

Originally from Huntingdon, PA, Ryan attended Susquehanna University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance and was a member of the Varsity Golf Team. Ryan achieved his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Certification, and he’s added the Chartered Financial Consultant™ (ChFC®) Designation and the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) Designation.

Outside of work, Ryan and his wife, Valerie, maintain a busy household in Bethel Park, PA with their children, Dante (15) and Ella (13). Dante decided to hang up his ice hockey skates to get more involved with volleyball and hunting with Ryan and John. Ella enjoys skating with her girls’ SHAHA hockey team. They are members of the South Hills Bible Chapel. When not attending various sporting and school events, the Franks family love spending time with family, friends, and their Red Lab, Millie.

An avid competitive golfer, Ryan qualified and competed in the prestigious 102nd United States Amateur Championship in 2002, held at the South Course of Oakland Hills, Michigan. Ryan still enjoys competing in amateur golf events throughout the state. He is also involved with his alma mater, Susquehanna University where he loves paying it forward by counseling the next generation of financial advisors.

As Chief Investment Officer, Neil has led the development of the DSF Investment Management Process that took the company from a small, start-up in 2011 to one of the largest independent financial advising firms under the Cetera Wealth Partners* umbrella, granting him accolades to speak at national conferences about his efforts. Neil recognized early on that a sustainable, investment management approach, built on sound principles, financial industry knowledge, and continual market research, would help to optimize clients’ wealth in the long-term and prevent them from taking an emotional response to the ever-changing market conditions.

In addition to his oversight on DSF’s Investment Management Committee, Neil is the Director of Advanced Planning where he partners with Financial Advisors to develop financial plans for complex scenarios. He understands that the number of financial options can be overwhelming, so he strives to provide clients with all of the information they will need to make informed decisions on how to manage their money. Financial planning goes beyond just looking at ways to optimize your wealth. A truly comprehensive approach includes presenting strategies on how to pay less in taxes, mitigate your risk, manage your cash flow, protect your family and ultimately provide a legacy for the next generation.

Neil holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Information Systems from Susquehanna University, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from York College of Pennsylvania. It was during his time on Susquehanna’s Varsity Golf team that he met DSF co-founder Ryan Franks. He started his career in public accounting and auditing where he obtained Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation, one he still holds today.

Neil and his wife, Jess, reside in York, PA with their children, Sarah and Miles. The Crowells enjoy attending sporting events, traveling, skiing, and running. Neil has run ten marathons and two ultra-marathons, including the Steamtown Marathon with Jess in 2009, and the Boston Marathon in 2018. As a volunteer for the major professional golf tours, Neil has been inside the ropes as a walking scorer for some of the game’s top players and celebrities.

A goal without a plan is just a wish. ~ Antonie de Saint- Exupéry

Nick believes that having a plan is one of the most powerful tools to help individuals stay on track to achieve their personal and financial goals.  He is committed to investing the time up-front to get to know his clients and to learn what’s meaningful to them and their future. Assisting clients in building a tailored plan to meet their specific needs is always a top priority, and while having a financial plan is a great first step, Nick believes monitoring and updating the plan matters even more. If his clients are worried about changes in the tax code, generating enough income, or navigating the volatility of the stock market, Nick is always there to help make sure clients stay on track.

Nick joined DSF Wealth Management Group in 2024 soon after leaving his position as Senior Financial Advisor with another wealth management firm in Tampa. The culture at DSF made the choice an easy one for Nick, as well his belief in their core principle: “to enable our clients to have a better tomorrow.”

Nick graduated from Penn State University, University Park with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management where he was a member of the PGA of America organization and participated in THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world.  He began his financial services career in 2016 with Merrill Lynch, Bank of America where he became a registered representative holding Series 7 and 66 securities registrations, along with life, accident, & health insurance licenses. Nick added the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation to his credentials to better help clients navigate changes in the industry.

Prior to beginning his career in finance, Nick worked at Augusta National, Oakmont, and The Creek Club golf clubs. During this time, Nick had the opportunity to learn excellent customer service that is fundamental at these notable clubs. The mastery of this skillset has now transitioned to servicing DSF clients.

Nick currently resides in Washington County with his fiancé, Sydney, and their dogs, Mia and Oliver. You’re likely to spot Nick on a Saturday morning run with Sydney, or on the links on any given Sunday enjoying a round of golf with family and friends. Nick enjoys travelling around the world and is always looking for an excuse to explore a new country. He is also an avid sports fan cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers or Penn State Nittany Lions.

J.W. attended Saint Francis University, in Loretto, PA, attaining a Bachelor of Science in both Finance and Accounting, as well as a Master of Business Administration during his 5 years on campus.  In this time, he was actively involved in several activities and clubs, including being a 5-year member of the Division I golf team, two years of which he was a captain. Matt’s Journey in the Wealth Management Field

Matt's passion for wealth management took root during his senior year at John Carroll University, where a finance capstone course sparked his interest in how advisors enhance their clients' financial well-being. This initial inspiration grew over time into a rewarding career.

After graduating, Matt joined Ernst & Young in the People Advisory Services practice, specializing in compensation and benefits consulting. He later transitioned to a renewable energy firm, where he honed his financial modeling skills and provided valuation services for renewable energy assets. These experiences solidified his client-first approach and refined his ability to deliver high-quality solutions.

In 2022, Matt joined DSF Wealth Management Group, where he earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification. As a Registered Representative, he focuses his efforts behind the scenes by supporting financial advisors in taking a holistic view of their clients’ financial picture, developing tax-efficient distribution planning for retirement. He understands that the array of financial options can be overwhelming, so he strives to provide presentations to advisors with clear, comprehensive information while ensuring that he is staying up to date with market trends and changes in financial and tax legislation.

Life Beyond Finance

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Matt continued his Jesuit Catholic education at John Carroll University in Cleveland, a place that shaped his values and introduced him to his wife, Jessie, on their first day of orientation.

The two were married in Sedona, Arizona, at the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Today, they reside in Cranberry Township with their beautiful daughter, Sophie. Parenthood has brought a new sense of joy and fulfillment to Matt's life. Watching Sophie grow and experience the world for the first time has deepened his appreciation for family and the importance of nurturing a strong foundation for the future.

Matt and his family are active parishioners of Divine Grace Parish, where faith plays a central role in their lives. Outside of work, family, and faith, Matt is passionate about outdoor adventures. Whether skiing, visiting the wonderful parks of Western Pennsylvania, or exploring the country's National Parks, he’s always seeking new ways to connect with nature and create lasting memories with his family.
